Experience Mapping
Mapping the experience of travel through space.
How do we experience space? What influences that experience? This project demonstrates my experience walking from one side of the University of Utah campus to the other while attempting to follow a straight line (solid bold black line) as closely as possible. It is impossible to follow this straight line exactly. How the walked path varies, changes the experience. This project highlights three of my experiences after multiple trips along this path creating experiences of memories, enjoyment, and speed in an intentional manner.
Around some of my most visited buildings on campus are solid and dashed rings. The rings represent the number of memories in that building. The dashed lines protruding from the center show the region where I spent the most amount of time. The red ovals connecting the centers of the rings represent shared memories, or buildings with similar memories.
Memories | Circular Rings
The black shaded region on the left of the guide line (straight bold black line) represents my direction and how fast I was walking in MPH, ranging from 0 - 4mph. Lines with arrows on each end represent my normal bike routes getting to and from classes.
Speed | Black Shaded Region
Enjoyment | Dark Red Shaded Region & Tessellations
On both sides of the guide line (straight bold black line) are shaded regions. On the Right (Dark Red shaded) are gridlines that represent how enjoyable the walk was based on increments from 0-5. The tessellation represents walkways that directly affected my enjoyment.
